Q & A ARCHIVES

Think of your shampoos like your laundry routine: sometimes you need a deep clean, sometimes a light refresh.

  • Clarifying shampoos are your heavy-duty cleaners. They remove product buildup, hard water minerals, and excess oils. Use these every 6 to 8 weeks, or more often if you use heavy stylers, swim, or live in a hard water area.
  • Gentle cleansers (also called moisturizing shampoos) are for regular wash days. They clean without stripping your hair’s natural oils.

Tip: If your hair feels coated, limp, or products stop “working,” that’s your signal to clarify.

A good rule is to layer from lightest to heaviest:

  • Leave-in conditioner, lightweight moisture, and slip for detangling.
  • Cream, richer hydration, and definition.
  • Gel, hold, and frizz control.

Tip: Always apply to wet or very damp hair for better absorption and even distribution.

If you only have 10 to 15 minutes:

  • Apply your deep conditioner in the shower after shampooing.
  • Clip hair up, pop on a plastic cap, and let steam from the shower create a mini heat treatment.
  • Rinse with cool water to seal moisture in.

Tip: Look for formulas labeled “instant” or “express”. They deliver intense moisture faster.

High porosity and fine density hair requires light treatment, but frequent moisture and protein for structure.

  • Gentle shampoo to prevent over-drying.
  • Moisturizing with light protein (e.g., silk, keratin, oat).
  • Lightweight cream or foam and soft hold gel to avoid weighing hair down.

Tip: Use lighter layers, but reapply moisture mid-week as needed. A hydrating, curl refresher spray is your best friend.

Hard water leaves mineral deposits in the hair over time, which block moisture.

  • Use a chelating shampoo (look for EDTA in ingredients) every 3 to 4 weeks.
  • If you swim often and notice signs like dullness, tangling, or faster dryness, you may need it every 2 weeks.

Tip: Pair your chelating wash with a moisturizing deep conditioner right after to restore moisture.

Gel flaking happens when products don’t mix well or there’s too much product.

  • To check for compatibility, rub a little leave-in and gel together in your hand. If it balls up, they’re not a match.
  • Apply less gel in smaller sections and work it in thoroughly.
  • Let your leave-in conditioner absorb before applying gel.

Tip: Flakes after drying? Scrunch lightly with a bit of oil to break the cast without dust.
